Here Is What We Have Been Up To!

Updated: Jun 15

It's been a whirlwind of activity at Shepherd's Door over the past few months, and we couldn't be more thrilled to share our latest updates and accomplishments with you. As we wrap up the 2023/2024 school year, we're proud to announce several exciting milestones and initiatives that have kept us busy and inspired.

First and foremost, we're delighted to report that Shepherd's Door has successfully completed 23 Healthy vs. Unhealthy relationship education workshops across five PUSD middle and high schools this academic year. With a reach of over 500 students, we've been able to empower young minds with vital knowledge and skills to navigate healthy relationships.

In addition to our workshops, this year marked our inaugural denim day campaign in PUSD schools. At John Muir High School, we conducted a workshop for the 9th-grade class, where 11 seniors volunteered to become lead ambassadors for the denim day campaign. Together, they pledged to foster a culture of consent and respect within their school, community, and online spaces, standing in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence.

Our final workshop of the school year took place at Marshall Fundamental School, where Ms. B's 9th-grade classes engaged with our Healthy vs. Unhealthy relationship curriculum, ending the year on a strong note.

Beyond the classroom, Shepherd's Door had the privilege of engaging with our community at the Altadena Guild Home Tours. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow community members and local agencies, strengthening our ties and collective impact.

We're also excited to share the launch of our African American initiative at Shepherd's Door. Through direct outreach, we've been able to provide resources and support to 13 African American families in the community, making meaningful strides toward equity and inclusivity.

Furthermore, we're thrilled to welcome new additions to our executive board: Kimberly Jones as board president, Sahar Farmanesh as board secretary, and Vivian Liang, Ferdinand Offray, and Eric Warren, LMFT as board members at large. Their expertise and dedication will undoubtedly enrich our organization as we continue to serve our community.

As we reflect on the past year, we extend our deepest gratitude to our supporters, volunteers, and staff for their unwavering commitment. Together, we've achieved significant milestones and made a positive impact on countless lives. We're excited for the journey ahead and look forward to continuing our mission of service and empowerment in the community.

Warm regards,

Linda Offray, MPA
